In September 2004 fellow Southern University students Cutis Roush, Thomas Choate, Ryan “Badcock” O’ Donoghue and Jack O’Brien decided to come together with their artistic music talent and formed a post-hardcore art rock collective called Bright Light Social Hour. With Curtis on guitar, Thomas on drums, Jack as vocalist and keyboardist, and Ryan on bass, they have been able to travel the world to perform for their fans.
In all the rock shows that I have had the opportunity to watch, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a band that plays up the crowd so well as Bright Light Social Hour. Before they even begin to play they start to address the crowd, and get them completely fired up, and then go straight into their first song. The first song which is an in your face, completely surrounding energetic hit. They completely lose themselves in the music, and then all of a sudden they are snapped back into the surroundings and are one with everything. Their energy is only rivaled by that of the audience, and it almost becomes this back and forth game between when they are playing their songs, and the audience’s cheers when they finish the song.
There is only one way to find out how exhilarating, exciting, and best of all fun, the bright light social hour are live. I drove over 3 hours to catch them and let me tell you it was worth it. Great music, great show but like I said you have to see for yourself! Don't miss out, don't look back and wonder what if. You have to live, experience, and become aware, that's my advice for you ;)
Great concert, in one of my favorite venues in Calgary (Gateway) & band members mingled with audience before and after show. Love their music, voices, beat (fab drumming) and great vocals by Curtis and Jack. They deserve more fans. It should have been sold out, but wasn't.
Amazing, great show, can't wait to see them again! Favorite moment was when they brought audience members on stage to dance! Very cool...! Very cool band, very cool night! Live music in a small venue is the ultimate entertainment!
