The Harmonix Experience: Jazz with Swagger, Funk with Soul
Every other week at Bird’s Basement, The Harmonix Experience takes the stage — and takes no prisoners. This genre-bending outfit blends jazz, acid jazz, funk, and a splash of rock into a sound that’s as unpredictable as it is irresistible.
Led by Albare on guitar, with Jake Mason on Hammond, Phil Rex on bass, Andrew Swann on drums, Paul Williamson on alto sax, and Salva Persico on percussion, the band kicks off each set with a simple sketch — then lets instinct and groove take over.
Expect deep grooves that’ll make you move your feet and more. This is jazz that sweats, funk that thinks, and music that never plays it safe.
Albare's music recalls that of the Bulgarian guitarist Hristo Vitchev, who has coined the term "heartmony," which he defines as "the simultaneous combination of feelings and emotions, especially when produced by experiences, memories, and stimulations pleasing to the heart, body, and soul." This describes Albare's current offerings very well.”
- Scott Albin, Jazz Time
A prolific player that shows he doesn’t have to be way out there to make his point and have himself he heard, it really is like Wes Montgomery riding the space shuttle that’ll take us to Mars. The mash up works and the groove is infectious. Smart stuff that demands to be heard by jazz guitar fans like it to the left of down the middle.”
- Chris SPECTOR, Midwest Record Review
“The sound of Albare can best be linked to the classic Wes Montgomery meets George Benson riff pulled off with flair and precision.”
