Pixie Lott has long been a singer, ever since she was barely 4 feet tall, singing as part of her church choir from a young age. Her talent was clear even then, receiving a scholarship to attend London’s prestigious Italia Conti Academy of the Arts at 11. After only a couple of years, she had moved on to West End musicals, appearing in “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” as well as a BBC One production of “The Sound of Music.”
As Lott reached her mid-teens, she began making demos which soon landed in the hands of Def Jam’s L.A. Reid, with Lott almost signing with Island Records until her management chose Mercury in the UK and Interscope in the US. In 2009, Lott released her debut single, “Mama Do (Uh Oh, Uh Oh),” which became a hit in the Uk and all over Europe. “Boys and Girls” followed, also finding commercial success, building anticipation for her debut album, “Turn It Up,” released in September of that year. The album sold like hot cakes ,becoming certified double-platinum the UK.
A planned US release was so caned, after the single “Boys and Girls” failed to make much of an impact in the American charts. Lott’s second effort, “Young Foolish Happy,” failed to match the heights of its predecessor after its 2011 release, yet it still sold Gold. The album also spawned the number one single, “All About Tonight,” as well as Top Ten hits “What Do You Take Me For” and “Kiss the Stars.”
Lott’s third self-titled effort was a long time coming, not seeing a release until 2014, again finding a hit single with “Nasty” peaking at number nine. The album itself reached number 15. After the album release, Lott joined the reality TV fanfare, appearing on BBC’s “Strictly Come Dancing,” finding nationwide popularity through her efforts. To capitalise, a Greatest Hits album, “PlatinumPixie,” arrived in autumn that year.
With 10 million albums sold, a reputation for shirtlessness, and countless arenas booked solid, how could JLS go wrong? The answer is they can't. The foursome whizzed their way through their string of hits at the O2 in London, beaming and bouncing all the way.
The set included their biggest singles, "Everybody in Love" and "Beat Again," although it was sometimes hard to hear them over the screaming girls. The arena is massive but they've got the personality and showmanship to fill the place up. Aston kept the crowd excited with his backflips, but Oritsé, JB, and Marvin got their turns in the spotlight, too. They really made an effort to get the audience involved.
There was lots of chatting and banter between the boys, and at one point, they whipped out the stools and got some girls from the crowd up on stage with them. The show was a whirlwind of lights, costume changes, and theatrics, but the guys have genuine talent to back up the spectacle. The story has a bittersweet ending since JLS won't be back for more, but they certainly give a new meaning to going out with a bang. If they were to reunite, you can bet there'd be plenty of people, including me, who'd go running back for more.
Pixie Lott: the blonde fashionista that can sing! I loved Pixie from the beginning, her album 'Turn it up' is a favourite of mine, and look where she is now, releasing yet another album on August the 4th!
When at a live show, don't expect just another stereotypical performance, expect to be blown away; if not with her dancing, by her sense of style at least. To be in the audience of one of her shows, whether it be large or small, her songs always feel personal and touching. 'We Just Go On' is sung beautifully by Pixie and 'Kiss The Stars' is guarenteed to get you wiggling those hips, whatever age! Maybe it's her sleek blond hair and great personality or her gorgeous wardrobe, but I find myself not only admiring her, but also fighting back a little jealousy; if you've got it, flaunt it!
Also, it is admirable that all her album covers are close ups of her, I wish I had the courage, money and talent to have my selfies on the cover of my album!
If you haven't listened to any of her work yet, you are missing out! She is well known for her songs that are guaranteed to get everyone on the dance floor. Don't be afraid, "turn it up" for Pixie Lott!
