Sivert Høyem achieved great success in his former band Madrugada, with their debut album 'Industrial Silence' making a significant breakthrough in their home-country of Norway. However, after the sad death of bandmate Robert Buras, they decided to disband following one final tour. however, Sivert has gone to achieve great success as a solo artist, releasing the three albums 'Ladies and Gentleman at the Opposition (2004), 'Moon Landing' (2009) and 'Long Slow Distance' (2011).
His solo music could be described as rock-driven balladry, with a powerful, sombre tone. His voice is strong and dynamic, carrying his emotive lyrics straight to the listener's soul. Performing live, he certainly has energy and passion to give character to his songs, with a stage presence and authority that he has developed through years of experience. His music has that bluesy tone similar to Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, although with more Scandinavian seriousness in its sound. He has developed an avid following over the years, with the crowd always receptive to his performance. Seeing him play at Oslo S was a riotous affair that certainly saw this Norwegian crooner gain the love of the audience. His songs also move to delicate, tender tales of heartbreak, keeping his act dynamically interesting. But he is at his best when guitars are being strum loud and his voice is booming in his rugged baritone. A vocal talent that should not be missed.
