First of all let it be known that I can't remember the last time wrote a review for anything. I felt compelled this time though just because I knew I had to.
I first saw Skylar Gudasz back in May of 2017 opening for Robyn Hitchcock and was pleasantly taken aback by her free flowing guitar riffs and had been wanting ever since then to catch another performance of hers and it seemed that the timing had always just been off.
Flash forward 17 long months and it seems that the planets and stars aligned. I found myself seeing her again at "The Pinhook" in downtown Durham, NC and me thinks my experience can only be described as a pleasant dream that you are having and you don't want to be roused from it. Skylars vocals blend so flawlessly with the guitar strings. Picture someone pouring milk and honey into a cuppa, albeit rather slowly. Yup, her new song "Play Nice" was definitely a pleasure to hear, and only left me wanting to drink in so much more.
Why I only heard of her a year and a half ago I do not know why. I will say that seeing her perform her craft has defiantly broadened my horizons and makes me happy that I'm living in this lifetime.
Waiting patiently for the planets and stars to do their thing again.
You know from the start of the set that if a girl is going to play a glockenspiel, you’re instantly going to fall in love, whether that is with the girl playing the glockenspiel or the way it sits on the music… but of course most likely the former.
Lets talk about Brooklyn’s own, Dawn Landes, an American singer-songwriter, who has been spinning her own brand of folk rock and pop for the last eight years, making waves on either side of the Atlantic. She also must have a fantastic music licenser with her songs making it onto film and TV such as her songs “Kissing Song” and “You Alone” featuring in the film “Winter Passing”. Her song “Straight Lines” was also used at the end of the documentary “When Harry Left Hogwarts” which was a special feature in the Blu-ray version of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2”. She performs all of the above this evening in this intimate, candle lit venue, including songs from her most recent release, “Bluebird”.
