Pop, Lock, and Drop it is my favourite hip hop track, possibly of all time, and when Huey opened his set with the track, the audience was going crazy. He entered the stage at floor level with the audience and was walking back and fourth along the front row of the crowd, reaching out to people whilst he was rapping his track. Most people seemed to be long time fans, and were singing along enthusiastically, so it was a pretty great atmosphere.
He began his career at the young age of 15, creating beats of his own that were featured on mix tapes, before being spotted by the production giant TJ Chapman, getting his first deal with Jive Records. It’s evident in his performance that he’s been in the industry for many years, as he is without nerves, and interacts wonderfully with the audience. He played most of the tracks from his album Redemption, as well as giving us a preview of some of the tracks from the upcoming album.
Throughout the show, he would stop to encourage the audience to dance and chant along with him, especially in the song Smile & Wave, which he had the whole room with their hands in the air.
