It’s likely that most people came across Fences due to their song “Arrows” which saw the indie rock band collaborate with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. The song is rich, mellow and deeply emotional. Christopher Mansfield’s vocals are raw and utterly gorgeous. He has a growl that lends a soulful edge to his vocals, which works immensely well with his deeply personal lyrics.
Christopher Mansfield is also a deeply talented lyricist and songs such as “The Same Tattoos” are as much poetry as they are music. The imagery within his lyrics betrays a heart that is full of emotion and a soul that was born to express itself through song. With this natural talent, it’s no surprise that Macklemore, Sara Quinn and Hellogoodbye have all been falling over themselves to work with him.
Fences has a very calming stage-presence. They are the epitome of chill as they open a set and this vibe rides its way through the whole concert. “Girls With Accents” always shows off Christopher Mansfield’s impressive guitar work when it’s featured on a set list, and “The Lake” is one of my personal favourites from the band. Check them out if you get a chance, they won’t disappoint.
