Quatuor Ebène

With two more astonishing works, Quatuor Ébène concludes its complete cycle of Beethoven’s string quartets. The First “Razumovsky” Quartet was a convention-breaking masterpiece more expansive and technically demanding than any chamber work before it. Hear it performed with “symphonic momentum” and an “acute sense of emotional timing [that] distinguishes the Ébènes from many of their contemporary rivals” (Gramophone). Also featured is the monumental Op. 130, performed intact with the Grosse Fuge, Op. 133—Beethoven’s original intended ending.
